Over the Garden Wall – you should watch it

It’s the time of year when autumn colors fall, witches reign, pumpkins overrun, and full moons grin. It’s objectively the best time of the year (early fall is my wife’s favorite, late fall is mine, Tinyhart loves it all), and if you disagree, you probably disagree. It is during this time of year that Tinyhart and I pull out one of our favorite things to watch. Over the Garden Wall, the charming, beautiful, autumn-themed mini-series that has all the feels, is something we’ve been watching together since before she remembers.

The premise is simple – two brothers are lost, and find themselves wandering through a whimsical land of talking bluebirds and horses, labyrinthine mansions, dancing skeletons, music-playing frogs, and a maniacal forest demon who hopes to capture lost souls. It doesn’t take long though to realize that nothing in the show is as simple as it seems. It initially comes off as a bit of a comedy, but it a deeply moving show about being lost, overcoming fear, and making choices. It is filled with soulful original music, and you will feel amazing when it’s over.

Find a way to watch it. Make some hot chocolate, sit down with your loved ones (especially if they happen to be kids), and watch it. It’s ten 10-minute episodes, making it no longer than a short movie.
