4Runner: My Jade Crusade (Part 2)

Some minor updates on the Yota 4R. Not much to go over, but wanting to get this in before January (when the “real” work begins).

I bought a nice redtop battery. Ran like a charm. Then it stopped. Took the battery in and it was completely dead. Replaced it and after a few days, found the battery low on charge. Took it out and put it in my Tacoma, ran for 30 minutes (on a trip to the dump) and it held just fine. I’m assuming this means I have a parasitic drain in the 4R. For the time being, I detach the negative terminal when it’s not in use, and that seems to have kept it from killing the battery.

Replaced the glass in the driverside mirror.

Explored a bit more underneath with my retired-mechanic uncle. Looks like there’s no body rust to be terribly concerned of, so all the rust I found on the bumpers and a few areas are just surface.

Bigger issue now that I’m finding is, the bad sunroof is allowing moisture to sit in the 4R. There’s mildew on the steering wheel & dash whenever I get in for the first time in a couple weeks. Guess I need to move “fixing the sunroof” up on the list, I don’t want to start developing mold in there.

That’s it for now. In January, I take it to a friend’s shop and we start digging into bigger issues to make this thing my dream vehicle.
